Courage

This past month Brady was voted the most courageous by his kindergarten class and he received a medal for it. Unfortunately we had to miss the assembly where they awarded all the kids their medals b/c of a doctors appt. in Kennewick but that's just how it goes. Docs don't work on the weekends. He was still pretty excited to get his medal and have picture taken for the local newspaper.

I am so proud of him, he doesn't get mad about diabetes getting in the way of life and he doesn't let it stop him from doing anything he wants to do. He is the definition of courageous and I know he inspires people to be courageous as well.

My Mom told me a story recently about one of my Dad's patients that just about made me cry. She said that my Dad has had this patient that wasn't feeling well b/c her Type 2 diabetes just wasn't being managed well just on a pill. My Dad suggested that she try insulin for a while just to see if she felt better. The lady said she didn't want to stick herself with a needle and just didn't think she wanted to have to check her blood sugar more often. My Dad told her about his 6 year old grandson with diabetes and how he checks his blood sugar at least 10 times a day and gets site insertions for his insulin pump every three days and never complains.

The lady looked at my Dad and thought for a minute and then decided that she would give the insulin a try. After a couple weeks she came back to see my Dad and she thanked him for telling her the story about his grandson because it gave her the courage to try insulin and she was so thankful b/c she felt so much better.

I am beyond proud of him.
